Summer wines: 5 Beaujolais

Summer wines: 5 Beaujolais

Beaujolais is undoubtedly the "buddy wine" par excellence. Often very fruity, easy-drinking and straightforward, it can be enjoyed without fuss or fuss: ideal for vacations. All Beaujolais wines are made from a single grape variety, Gamay, on predominantly granitic terroirs, and always retain a clean acidity that makes them fresh and easy to drink, especially in summer. For summer drinking, look for this fruitiness and palatability in five of the ten crus, all located in the northern part of the vineyard. These wines should be opened young (no more than 3-4 years), and served slightly chilled to bring out the red fruit flavors of strawberry and raspberry.

  • Cru brouilly (1)

Domaine du Père Lathuilière

Lieu-dit La Pente

2020

A fruit bomb that opens with strawberry, raspberry and redcurrant and offers an invigorating presence. Very few tannins for this cuvée, which should be chilled for a few moments for a festive aperitif.

  • Cru côte-de-brouilly (2)

Domaine Chevalier-Métrat

Lieu-dit L'Héronde

2020

A south-facing bluestone terroir offers a very ripe wine with notes of black fruit, coffee and blood orange. On the palate, the wine is velvety, then lengthens with a lovely mineral straightness and refreshing acidity. Open this summer with a fillet of beef in a dry coffee marinade, served cold.

  • Cru morgon (3)

Domaine de Bel-Air

Lieu-dit Les Charmes

2020

An elegant Morgon from this little-known lieu-dit in the shadow of the now-famous Côte-du-Py or Corcelette. The aptly named wine offers a charming, velvety, delicate side. The white pepper finish makes you crave a thick slice of tuna just seared.

  • Cru saint-amour (4)

Domaine Les Sources d'Agapé

Lieu-dit Côte de Besset

2019

A revelation from this young domaine, which here delivers an elegant, justly fruity wine that is both fresh and fine. A round, suave, fruity wine, perfectly matured, that will be a pleasure to open simply for itself as an aperitif in good company or with grilled meat.

  • Cru moulin-à-vent (5)

Domaine Château des Jacques

Lieu-dit Clos du Grand Carquelin

2019

A very fine cuvée with a clean, straightforward nose offering very chiselled fruit. On the palate, we find the rocky water character with notes of wild strawberries. A very pure cru that is already tasting very well today and that can also be forgotten in the cellar for a few years.
